Modern aluminium windows are thermally broken, meaning there is an insulating barrier between the inside and outside of the frame. This is what makes them energy efficient, and it is the thing that distinguishes a current aluminium window from the cold, condensation-prone aluminium frames of the 1970s and 80s that give the material an undeserved reputation.

What affects the price of aluminium windows
Windows are priced per opening, and the number moves on more variables than most people expect:
- Size and quantity — a full-house replacement carries a better per-unit rate than a single window.
- Style — fixed lights are the most economical; flush casement, tilt-and-turn and heritage styles carry a premium.
- Opening configuration — how many of the panes actually open, and which way.

Are aluminium windows cold?
Not modern ones. Current aluminium windows are thermally broken, with an insulating barrier through the frame. The cold, condensation-prone aluminium frames people remember are a 1970s and 80s product and bear no relation to what we install.
Aluminium or uPVC, which should I choose?
Aluminium gives slimmer sightlines, more glass in the same opening, better colour retention, and a longer frame life. uPVC costs less up front. If budget is the deciding factor, uPVC is a sensible choice and we supply both.
Can I get aluminium windows in a conservation area?
Often yes, using heritage-style profiles designed to replicate traditional steel or timber sightlines. Approval depends on your local authority and the specific designation. Check with the conservation officer before ordering.
What U-value will I get?
It depends on the frame system and glass specification chosen. We confirm the figure in writing on your quote rather than quoting a headline number that may not apply to your build.
Do you replace just the glass, or the whole window?
Both. If the frames are sound and only the sealed units have failed, replacing the glass is far cheaper. If the frames are the problem, replacement is the answer. We tell you honestly which one you need.
How long do aluminium windows last?
The frames typically outlast the sealed units. Powder-coated aluminium holds its finish for decades with minimal maintenance, which is why the guarantee period is what it is.
Do I need FENSA certification?
Yes, for replacement windows in a dwelling. We register every installation, so the certificate is on the national register. Your buyer’s solicitor will ask for it.
