Do bifold doors need planning permission?
Usually not. Most installations in England fall under permitted development. Exceptions apply if the property is listed or in a conservation area. We flag this during the survey if it applies to you.
How many panels do I need?
Depends on the width of your opening. As a rough guide: up to 1.8m suits a 2-panel, 2.7m a 3-panel, 3.6m a 4-panel. Odd-width openings often work better with an extra panel than trying to stretch fewer. The surveyor will advise.
Which direction should the doors fold?
Left or right stack, or split in the middle. Most people fold toward the less-used side of the opening. We talk through this at survey stage.
Are aluminium bifolds energy efficient?
Yes, when correctly specified. Our frames are thermally broken and we install double or triple glazed units as standard. U-values are confirmed on your written price.
Can bifolds be any colour?
Any RAL colour, including dual colour (different inside and out). Most popular choices are anthracite grey, black, white, and sage green. Lead times are the same regardless of colour.
Do I need to notify Building Control?
If you are replacing an existing door or window opening of a similar size, usually no. If you are creating a new or enlarged opening in a structural wall, you will. We can advise at survey stage.
What guarantee do you offer?
